Living Goods aims to transform the way health care is delivered for generations to come, ensuring every mother and child has access to quality health care where they live. The Living Goods team works with governments and partners to leverage smart mobile technology, rigorously strengthen performance, and relentlessly innovate to deliver cost-effective, high-quality health services. Living Goods empowers thousands of community health workers (CHWs) to deliver life-saving care directly to the doorsteps of millions of people; by the end of 2018, Living Goods had provided more than seven million people across Kenya and Uganda with access to health care.
Living Goods recruits, trains, equips, and manages networks of local CHWs who go door-to-door in their neighbourhoods providing health education, diagnoses, medicines, and health products that save and improve lives. Living Goods provides CHWs with extensive, ongoing training and a smartphone equipped with a powerful diagnostic mobile application: the SmartHealth™ app. Living Goods closely supervises and monitors CHW performance and works to ensure CHWs always have essential medicines and products in stock. CHWs supported by Living Goods focus on the impact areas where they can make the biggest difference at a low cost: pregnancy and newborn care, malaria, pneumonia, diarrhea, referring high-risk cases, nutrition, immunizations, and family planning. A recent randomized controlled trial (RCT) showed that Living Goods reduced the number of children dying of preventable illnesses by 27%. Living Goods is a top-ranked charity by The Life You Can Save and was recognized as a GiveWell standout charity before GiveWell retired that designation.
