World Malaria Day 2023

Update May 11: We are pleased to announce that the global effective giving community raised over $643,000 USD for the Against Malaria Foundation and Malaria Consortium during the World Malaria Day 2023 campaign! Learn more on Giving What We Can’s campaign page. Thank you for your generosity!

Over 600,000 people die from malaria every year, with over 80% of deaths being children under five years old. This number is unacceptably high, especially knowing that malaria is cheap and easy to prevent.

Join us April 19-25 in raising money for Against Malaria Foundation and Malaria Consortium, which cost-effectively prevent malaria in the places that need it the most. RC Forward is partnering with over 10 organizations around the world in a global campaign to build awareness and raise $1.3 million CAD to fight malaria.

It costs less than $7 CAD to provide an insecticide-treated bednet that can help shield 2 people for up to two years from malaria.

It costs less than $10 CAD to provide medicine to prevent malaria to a child in target areas.

Why malaria?

The United Nations World Health Organisation organizes World Malaria Day each year on April 25 and draws attention to the need for progress in combatting this disease.

Over 600,000 people died of malaria in 2021, and 247 million were made ill by the disease.

This represents an enormous disease burden that primarily affects people living in extreme poverty.

Malaria prevention is cheap and effective to prevent, and your donations will have a tangible impact on those living in at-risk areas. Roughly $5,000 USD will provide enough bednets or seasonal medicine doses to save someone’s life.

Giving What We Can have put together a page full of resources that includes:

  • Facts about malaria
  • A list of all the organizations around the world who are participating
  • Information about the campaign
  • Social media graphics to help you spread the word

Over 10 organizations have banded together for this campaign, and we’re excited to see how much our global community can raise to fight malaria.

How can I get involved?
