The Life You Can Save Recommendations

The Life You Can Save recommends a variety of charities that have been rigorously evaluated so that you make the biggest impact per dollar. In addition to giving to the charities below, you can support The Life You Can Save’s work by giving to their programs.

*Note that The Life You Can Save does not evaluate charities; rather, they use other’s evaluations to guide their recommendations.

Against Malaria Foundation

An African child carrying a malaria net over their head.

The Against Malaria Foundation (AMF) distributes long-lasting, insecticide-treated bed nets in sub-Saharan Africa to combat malaria, one of the most common and easily preventable diseases facing the world today. Rigorous studies suggest these nets are the most cost-effective way of preventing malaria.

Development Media International

Development Media International (DMI) runs television, radio, and mobile campaigns in developing countries to change health-related behaviours and save lives. DMI is the first organisation to have demonstrated that mass media campaigns implemented according to DMI’s methodology can change health-related behaviours and save lives.

Evidence Action

Evidence Action scales evidence-based and cost-effective programs to reduce the burden of poverty. They fill the gap between research about what works and implementing solutions for those in need. They operate in ten countries and measurably impact millions of lives every year through our programs. More information about this charity.

Fistula Foundation

Fistula Foundation is dedicated to treating women suffering with obstetric fistula, a devastating childbirth injury that destroys a woman’s life. It leaves her incontinent, humiliated, and too often shunned by her community. Surgery is the only cure.

Innovations for Poverty Action

Innovations for Poverty Action is a research and policy nonprofit that discovers and promotes effective solutions to global poverty problems. Your donation will be used to invest in innovative research and the pursuit of our strategic goals-in particular the translation of evidence into practice and policy.

Iodine Global Network

The Iodine Global Network aims to reduce iodine deficiency globally by advocating for national salt iodization programs, tracking progress on iodization, and providing global and country-specific guidance on related programmatic and scientific issues.

Living Goods

Living Goods supports local community health workers in developing countries to go door-to-door to sell affordable health and household goods and provide basic health counseling to families in need, at an affordable price. Living Goods is a top-ranked charity of The Life You Can Save and has been on GiveWell’s standout charity list since 2014.

Malaria Consortium

Malaria Consortium is one of the world’s leading non-profit organisations specializing in the prevention, control and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases among vulnerable populations. Please note that donations through RC Forward will only be directed towards Malaria Consortium’s Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC), program per GiveWell’s recommendation.

Project Healthy Children

Micronutrient deficiencies are the leading cause of intellectual disability in children, preventable blindness among adults, and maternal death during childbirth. PHC supports governments to ensure the successful delivery of food fortification programmes for tens of millions of people.

Schistosomiasis Control Initiative

The Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI) works with Ministries of Health and Education in sub-Saharan Africa and Yemen to treat their populations for the parasitic “worm” infections, schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH). These infections affect the poorest and most marginalised communities in the world
